George Nicoll 1931 Custom Oliver Hardy Nicoll 5 Iron Given to Bing Crosby - Framed
From Scotland to Oliver Hardy of comedic duo Laurel and Hardy fame to Bing Crosby to The Golf Auction. This is the eventual progression of this George Nicoll 1931 Custom Oliver Hardy Nicoll 5 Iron Given to Bing Crosby, with the blanks filled in with some research by The Golf Digest team in June 2001 for their column 'Classic Clubs.' The custom club includes the distinguishable face of Oliver Hardy in the center of the club face, with comedy lying even in the thought of hitting the ball in the sweet spot and off the noggin. Laurel and Hardy were active from 1927 until 1955 and were the talk of Classical Hollywood during that time for their slapstick comedy.
Hardy's picture is located to the left of the club that is held in this red velvet presentation box with a nameplate that reads "One of a Kind - Oliver Hardy's #5 Iron - Made by George Nicoll - Leven, Fife, Scotland - 1931." Stamped on the back of the head are deep markings of "Presented to Oliver Hardy by George Nicolls" along with additional maker marks. The club is in good to very good condition, with very little usage as seen in the photos. Accompanying the presentation is a matted June 2001 Golf Digest cover and article page that talks about the club's lineage. "37 3/4" x 26"
