Gene Sarazen's Personal Invitation To 1999 Masters Club Dinner w/ Envelope

This invitation was extended to past Masters champion Gene Sarazen for his final Masters week that included Honorary Starter shots and this important tradition only a month prior to his passing. Winning bidder will receive the Gene Sarazen Marco Island, Florida addressed envelope, free of alteration, with invitation. “I’ll have lamb chops,” Sarazen told the LA Times when asked about the 1999 Champs dinner hosted by Mark O' Meara after expressing displeasure for the cheeseburgers offered the year prior. The Squire's favorite? Freddie Couples' 1993 Chicken Cacciatore in keeping with Sarazen's Italian heritage. An extremely historical moment in golf occurred in 1935 when Sarazen scored a double eagle. Offered in this lot is the desired, seldom seen past champions invitation and stamped mailing envelope to attend the Masters Club dinner. In visually pleasing near mint condition for display remains the thick cardstock invitation with a thin green border - the invitation design in 1999. Sender Augusta National is on backside of the envelope that is postmark stamped Augusta, Georgia January 22, 1999. A signed letter of provenance from Mary Ann Sarazen will come with this lot.
