Gene Sarazen Signed 'Double Eagle' 1935 Masters Limited Edition Print - #415/1000
Scoring a 3 under, double eagle at the Masters has been done exactly four times since the tournament's inception in 1934. The prestigious club includes golfers Bruce Devlin, Jeff Maggert, Louis Oostheisen and of course the Squire himself, Gene Sarazen. Sarazen beat Craig Wood in a playoff in 1935 thanks to a 235 yard 4-wood shot that Gene holed on hole 15 of the final round. It was golf's version of Babe Ruth's called shot. Likely much more impressive, it was deemed "the shot heard round the world." The print has images of Sarazen career highlights and is signed by Sarazen in the bottom left corner. This print was done in 1983 and signed and numbered 415/1000 by artist David Meo. It measures 25 1/2" by 19" and has some signed of aging in the bottom left corner. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authentication comes with this lot.
