Gene Sarazen Signed Handwritten 4 Page Letter to Pat Ward-Thomas w/ Open Champs Dinner, 100 Balls a day & Jun Co. Content from December 28, 1981
This lot consists of a four-page autograph letter signed (ALS) by legendary professional golfer Gene Sarazen, dated December 28, 1981. The letter is written in black ink on four separate sheets of personalized stationery featuring a green printed graphic of a golfer in knickers and a letterhead reading: GENE SARAZEN / EMERALD BEACH APT. / MARCO ISLAND, FLORIDA 33937. Addressed to Pat, the correspondence provides an intimate look into Sarazen's life at nearly eighty years of age. He discusses maintaining his golf game to combat arthritis, noting that every day he hits at least one hundred balls just to keep arthritis from taking me over. He mentions upcoming travel plans to Troon for a Legends Tour and detailed business dealings regarding the sale of his Gene Sarazen Classic sportswear line to the Jun Co. for the European market. The letter also touches upon personal matters, including his wife Mary's health, their thoughts on moving inland from Marco Island to the middle of the state, and his support for Tara Hall, a school for homeless boys.
