Gene Sarazen Signed 1936 Augusta Open Golf Tournament Practice Rd Ticket

Seven years prior to the opening of Augusta National Golf Club and 27 years after Augusta Country Club a Donald Ross design started accepting golfers just down the road, it went by the name of Forest Hills Golf Club. The club held the Augusta Open in November, concurrent as the initial years of Masters Tournament play (then Augusta Invitation Tournament). Leading tour players such as Gene Sarazen and Ralph Guldahl were in the Augusta Open field. In fact Guldahl bested 'The Squire' the Augusta Open in 1936 to bring home the $1,000 purse. Gene Sarazen signed this ticket a year after his 'Shot Heard Round the World' Double Eagle on 15 to force a playoff with Craig Wood and Masters victory. There is some paper loss on the verso of this ducat, not affecting the signature or presentation.James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity will come with this lot.
