Gene Sarazen Canvas & Leather Ltd Ed Full Size Wilson Golf Bag #248/2500 w/Headcovers
Excellent condition and never used, with the plastic protective layer over the limited edition gold-tone #248/2500 metal plate is this Gene Sarazen commemorative tan and army green canvas and leather bag. Both 'Wilson' and Gene Sarazen's embossed facsimile signature adorn the bag encircled on stitched leather oval patches. Accessorizing the bag are the three original headcovers and zip up rain cover. The Squire's remarkable 75-year relationship with the company was the longest-running contract in sports history and lasting until his passing in 1999. The Wilson-Sarazen relationship predated his 1935 Masters Double Eagle and was in place for each of his Masters Tournament Honorary Starter drives with fellow staffers and past champions Sam Snead and Byron Nelson. Sarazen would win the first seven of eight major championships using Wilson irons, decades before Arnold Palmer's 1958 Masters triumph. Further evidence of this bag's condition and lack of usage is the bottom of the base, with very little scuffing as shown in the accompanying lot photos.
