Gay Brewer Signed 1973 Ryder Cup Team USA Shag Bag w/12 Titleist Pro Traj 100 Golf Balls

So nice he signed his 1973 Ryder Cup Team issued shag bag twice. In blue pen Gay Brewer added his scribe with 'Jr.' on both the white stripe on this lot's front and on the red verso above were the biennial matches patch initially was. Along with the team issued patriotic red, white and blue bag are a dozen of Masters Champ Brewer's time-period Titleist Pro Traj 100 golf balls from, a tough Ryder Cup tournament-used category hobby entry. The 1973 edition of the biennial matches would be no different. Muirfield hosted an away win by the American team with a final tally of 19 to 13. Gay Brewer played in only one prior Ryder Cup and notched 2 1/2 points for the United States, with Jack Nicklaus leading the way at 4 1/2. A Letter of Provenance signed by Bob Boring will accompany this lot.

The Bob Boring Collection

Professional caddy, world recognized clubmaker and friend of 1967 Masters Champion Gay Brewer, Robert 'Bob' Boring has been all around the game of golf. On the bag for legends such as Sam Snead, Bobby Nichols and Brewer, there was never a dull moment. Boring's stories include: betting Gay whether an alligator would eat a golf ball and saving Snead from a charging superfan. Oh, to be a fly on the...green? The Golf Auction is proud to present the collection of Bob Boring that showcases numerous personal items of Gay Brewer's including what was initially the "untouchable" - Brewer's winning 1967 Masters Tournament putter with an interesting story to come with it. Boring was once asked by Sports Illustrated about Brewer's thoughts on the tournament he once won. "Augusta National and the Masters are every bit as important to Gay as they are to Arnold Palmer," said (Gay Brewer's) friend and former caddie, Bob Boring. "Gay was defined by that '67 Masters."
