Fred Couples Senior Skins Game Match Used Caddy Bib
Worn by 1992 Masters Tournament champion Fred Couples' caddy for the made-for-television Senior Skins Game match at Ranchola Quinta is this Toyota branded bib with the bold "COUPLES" lining the back. This was the walking billboard that the gallery used to locate "Boom Boom" major champ as they were taking in the tournament. Caddy bibs remain the closest thing to a "jersey" identifier in golf and are highly sought after "gamers" that collectors continuously seek out. The verso is the same as the frontside. This one comes from the collection of the former ESPN head for the Skins Game Chuck Gerber. There is light overall wear apparent, consistent to that of tournament usage.
The Chuck Gerber Collection
Longtime ESPN and Ohlmeyer Communications executive and producer Chuck Gerber presided over a majority of the made-for-television 'Skins' and 'Senior Skins' Tournaments in the 1990's and 2000's that notably featured a who's who of golf with names like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Payne Stewart and a young Tiger Woods. Gerber became close with many of the aforementioned A-list golf stars chosen to fill out the four spots, resulting in many of the premium signed pieces of memorabilia presented in his collection. After numerous successful tournaments and 15 years at ESPN, Gerber was offered a new opportunity as a consultant for the NCAA's Southeastern Conference. There Gerber was instrumental in negotiating TV contracts and media relations.
"He was one of the most vibrant personalities in the sports media business and a true visionary at ESPN for many years. His impact on college sports in particular continues to serve fans today, and will for decades to come," ESPN Vice President Burke Magnus said of his coworker - and most importantly, friend.
