Francis Ouimet's Personal 1947 Masters Tournament Players Gift - Scrapbook
The second in a series of players gifts that still continues to this day for the Augusta National to its participants in the Masters. This 11 1/2 X 13 scrapbook comes with its original string bound front and back covers. The top cover contains the following gold etched wording against the red colored cover: "Masters Tournament 1947", "Augusta National Golf Club", and the contestants name "Francis Ouimet". Inside contains the complete 20 issued photos which breakdown by size- (4) 7 1/2 X 9 3/8 and (16) 3 1/8 X 4 5/8). Among these twenty photos the highlights are past Masters Champs to date (see photo below), a photo of 1947 champion Jimmy Demaret, and photos of President Robert T Jones Jr. and Chairman Clifford Roberts. The cover contains the standard crease on the left hand side from top to bottom associated with the opening and closing of the scrapbook. On the opening page of the 15 page book, just above pictures of Jones and Roberts is this message from the club in green ink: "As a means of expressing the appreciation of the members of the Augusta National Golf Club, this photographic record of the 1947 Masters has been prepared for our player guests and for those who assisted in the conducting of the tournament." This is only the third example of the 1947 Masters gift which The Golf Auction has had the opportunity to sell with the last being Felix Serafin's scrapbook in the April 2013 auction for $2,580.
Please note: This auction will end at 5:00pm EST on Sunday, April 8th, with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow.
