Francis Ouimet Signed The Country Club (Brookline) Scorecard - Only One JSA #Z97550

It is our distinct honor to present the first Francis Ouimet signed Country Club of Brookline scorecard from the hand of 1913 US Open historic victor. Each letter formed with graphite elegance across the attested line inside this Ouimet group scored Stymie scorecard guarded by the iconic Squirrel illustrated on the cover. Ouimet is the center 'O' sandwiched by playing partners that day (notated on frontside) Hector Thomson and Jock McLean for a round of 73. Francis Ouimet was the 1936 Walker Cup US Captain, hosting and perhaps scouting two members of the Great Britain & Ireland team for the nearby Pine Valley held international amateur competition. McClean matched Ouimet's 73, Thomson 76 prior to a US 9-0 win - perhaps yet another Ouimet playoff was instore.

What was by many accounts the most important USGA sanctioned golf tournament took place at the 1913 US Open set at the Country Club of Brookline. The stage was set, with the outcome undetermined as the United States Golf Association chose Massachusetts' own The Country Club in Brookline to host their national championship, the US Open. Brookline, Massachusetts, native and 20-year old amateur Francis Ouimet would earn the nickname "Father of Amateur Golf" with tournament victory. The only more improbable success story that week was that of the caddie he had employed, 10-year old Eddie Lowery. This scorecard, likely dating to a 1936 Walker Cup warmup match, is the only of its kind. The star-struck Brits McClean and Thomson astutely used the it to capture their legendary friend's pencil signature post-round - the lone Country Club of Brookline scorecard with Ouimet's handwritten name with an intriguing side story coming with. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their FULL letter of authenticity #Z97550 comes with this lot.
