Four Bobby Wadkins' Personal Ben Hogan 1-Irons

Each stamped 'BW,' this offering is for Four Bobby Wadkins' Personal Ben Hogan 1-Irons. Usage varies on the 11-time professional winner's clubs, with one including tape to add weight to the head. Hogan of course pulled off his iconic 1-iron shot that sounds improbable when considering the pressure of the moment and the club selection. Hogan went on to then win the 1950 US Open. Captured by a photographer at the right moment, this image from behind him is one of the most well-known in all of golf. Each head stamping of the clubs in this lot are dark and adds significance.

THE BOBBY WADKINS COLLECTION

One of the few in golf history that can lay claim to over 1,000 career starts between the PGA Tour and Champions Tour. Bobby Wadkins played the PGA Tour on a full-time basis from 1975-98. Over this stretch he posted six second place finishes on the Tour. His finest season on Tour came in 1987 when he finished 25th on the money list with 7 top 10's and excelled in that years majors finishing 4th at the U.S. Open, 7th in the PGA Championship and 21st at the Masters. Over this time period Wadkins would find success on other professional tours around the world winning the 1978 European Open and the 1979 and 1986 Dunlop Phoenix (Japan) titles. His career went into even a higher gear when he was eligible for the Champions Tour. In Wadkins first appearance on the senior golfers platform in 2001, he broke through for his first professional win on the U.S. tours with a triumph at the Lightpath Long Island Classic. He had wasted no time, becoming the youngest winner on the Champions Tour at 50 years and 10 days. Bobby has continued to find success on the Champions Tour with four career wins which includes one Senior Major at the 2006 Senior Players Championship. Success on the golf course was long projected for Bobby and his World Golf Hall of Fame brother Lanny. This started with a run of six straight years of Richmond, Va. city junior titles (Bobby 2, Lanny 4). The brother combo continued to be recognized on the National golf scene throughout their professional careers, highlighted when Bobby assisted Lanny as he captained the USA team in the 1995 Ryder Cup matches. The Golf Auction thanks Bobby and his wife, Linda for the opportunity to represent the Wadkins family in the auctioning of some of their prized items from a long successful career in golf.
