Final Rd 18th Hole Sunday Course Flown Flag from 2009 US Open Win by Lucas Glover

Definitive photo matching zeroes in on two long stray white strings from the backside of this 2009 US Open at Bethpage final round 18th hole flag's reinforced vertical white grommet stripe! Two other strings about half the length are also there, showing up blurred in the reference photo. Unique to the USGA's tournament-used flags, this dark red flag exhibits stitched white numbers along with 'US Open' and '2009' on a single side and that aforementioned grommet stripe folded over at the top and the bottom. After playing in the Sectional Qualifier out of Columbus, Ohio, Lucas Glover was tied for 7th after the first round of the 2009 US Open. He was then second place after the second and third round to US Amateur champion Ricky Barnes out of the same Sectional Qualifier. It was a 5-day USGA affair due to inclement weather in Long Island New York at the course famous for among other things its 'Warning' sign. Glover would prove to be the 'highest skilled' golfer that week at Bethpage Black, finishing a pair of strokes ahead of the field with his 4-under 276.The final runner-up list would eventually include two more names - US Open bridesmaid Phil Mickelson and Open Champion David Duval.

In addition to an elevated check, common practice for the caddies carrying the winning bag on tour is to be awarded the 18th hole flag at the conclusion of that tournament. This was the case when we presented the 1980 US Open actual 18th hole flag sourced from Jack Nicklaus' caddy Angelo Argea in our Fall 2010 Auction. Please closely examine the final reference photo, that with the fresh champion Glover on the 18th green Sunday in the foreground and this very flag with the distinct stray threads in the background.
