F. H. Ayres London Cast Iron Hole 7 Tee Marker
Large roman numerals 'XII' with the raised 'F.H. AYRES' along with 'LONDON.' White, aged paint remains intact on this heavy cast iron tee marker. This was part of a F.H. Ayres 'Clock Game' that was distributed in a wooden box and manufactured in the aforementioned London region. The 12 roman numerals would be laid out in a circle like a clock face and could be played on the lawn. Players would take turns putting from 12 different spots into the central hole, with the individual taking the least strokes the chosen winner. Clubmaker Fredrick Henry Ayers was a toymaker that opened shop in 1864 in London. Some of his well-known toys included games such as croquet, billiards, chess and clock golf in which this 'tee marker' is from. Ayers passed away in 1906. 6 1/2" x 7"
