Evel Knievel's Personal Match Used Golf Bag w/MacGregor Tourney Irons, Woods & Putter w/Headcovers
One of the most death-defying acts and personalities
of all time - Knievel escaped eternal rest with numerous close calls while performing his highly publicized
stunts. As a celebrity, like many others who have taken up the game of golf, Knievel was hooked on the
sport and used it as a type of therapy. He began to participate in numerous fund-raising charity golf
tournaments. Evel Knievel’s hero was unsurprisingly golf legend Arnold Palmer - who had always set the bar ‘one notch
higher’, never taking the easy route.
Its consignor Hal Shaw of the Babe & George Zaharias Foundation shared the story of when he met Knievel at a charity golf outing in the Tampa Bay, home of the Babe Zaharias Golf Course to this day. After the
round, he spent some time acquainting with the ultimate daredevil. At the
end of the award presentations that evening, Evil invited Shaw and others to have a few drinks at one of his favorite watering holes
near Madeira Beach. After hours of sharing mostly golf stories, Shaw's celebrity host invited them out to his car that is parked in a reserved spot - where it
became obvious that being the man had its rewards. Evil opens his trunk and pulls out his set of golf
clubs that he played with up to the time his current ‘tools’ as he described them. He then hands them to
consignor Hal Shaw with a request to find a proper home for my old friends. Shaw replied to Evil 'you have my promise and our
foundation’s gratitude for such an unbelievable donation.' He shook everybody’s hand then got in his
card and headed down the road.
This jaw-dropping matching club set contains unique Macgregor MTI woods 1-5,
Macgregor MTI Irons 2-9, D.S. wedge, Macgregor spur putter, custom made Bardmoor sand wedge and
a Macgregor flamed 'EVEL KNIEVEL' staff red, white and blue golf bag with umbrella, cover and patriotic Palma Ceia Country Club (Tampa, FL) headcovers. When examining the 10 photos, with numerous collages, slight welcomed wear is apparent - with his bag tags from the late 1970's - early 1980's suggesting many years of usage in various tournaments. This personal bag and club set from once the most entertaining man in the world demands warranted attention - as he did.
