Ed McMahon's Personal Irons, Putter & Woods w/Bag Tags in Personal Golf Bag

Second fiddle to only the great entertainer and Tonight Show host Johnny Carson, and Arnold Palmer on one occasion, Ed McMahon was a legendary television personality and announcer active from 1957 until his passing in 2009. "A man with a booming voice and childlike delight in Johnny’s humor. Ed was a big, tall guy, slow and not-too-bright, setting off Johnny’s graceful movements and quick wit. McMahon never tired of starting every show by saying: “Heeeeeeere’s Johnny!” reminisced Medium.com writer Andrew Szanton.

Stitched in canary yellow and running across the main pocket on his personal maroon golf bag in this lot is 'ED MCMAHON', sourced from the Babe and George Zaharias Foundation. Inside is McMahon's full 12 iron set of the highly desirable line PING Eye 2 composed of beryllium copper. This includes a wedge, sand wedge and lob wedge and woods, with Ping Pal 4 putter. Each of the dozen irons were customized for the primetime performer, with 'E. Mc.' stamped in the hozel and filled in with white paint and the putter with 'E.M.' on the sole towards the toe. Karsten Co shaft bands remain intact and the set in very good condition, played sparingly. Like Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Andy Williams and others, Ed McMahon's name was used for the Quad Cities Open (now John Deere Classic) from 1975 to 1979, with the 1977 tag hanging on his full-size bag. A signed letter of provenance from the Babe and George Zarahrias Foundation comes with this lot.
