Dwight Eisenhower Signed Original ANGC Jacket Photo To Cliff Roberts Used in Book

Proudly presented from a private collection after many years of admiration as a centerpiece is THE famous historically significant original photo of President Eisenhower signed by the green jacket donning Four-Star General to Clifford Roberts from his first of 45 voyages to Augusta National Golf Club! Only furthering this jaw-dropping still is its marquee usage in the ANGC's most known title.

Kindly, turn to page 113 in your copy of the 1976 title 'The Story of The Augusta National Golf Club by Clifford Roberts.' A hardcover copy will accompany this lot if the book is out of reach. The entirety of p.113 opposite Roberts' story titled 'General Eisenhower's First Visit' is this very photo of President Dwight D. Eisenhower in his green Augusta National Golf Club jacket taken in 1948 when he stepped on the hallowed grounds for the first time. It would be a Springtime invite from Roberts and the three other members Bob Woodruff of Coca-Cola, Pete Jones of Petroleum Magnate and of course Bobby Jones, forming what was known as "The Gang" whom Eisenhower was closest to. The initial 10-day trip was four years before Eisenhower's Presidential inauguration and notably included his ANGC member induction.

Perhaps Clifford Robert's most treasured photo is signed and inscribed by Eisenhower to Roberts reads: "For Cliff Roberts-who did so much to make our visit to the Augusta National the most delightful vacation of our lives-Ike Eisenhower & Mamie." Flip the matted photograph over and you will see the handwritten notation '(Clifford) Roberts Suite' referencing where it was initially displayed at Augusta National Golf Club and measures 16 1/2" x 12 1/2." Club co-founder with Bobby Jones, Clifford Roberts' suite was the room at the far end of the East Wing of the Clubhouse in which he stayed four months out of the year, paying his own way. It is now named after him just that. The Eisenhower Cabin would of course be erected in 1953 for their continued stays. Removed from its frame, originally included in the title, this revealed verso notations. This represents one of the finest Augusta National Golf Club photographs, the crystal clear shot of Eisenhower during his first visit in which he signed to Roberts and Roberts would use for his photo and display on his own ANGC suite's wall. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their FULL letter of authenticity #YY97645 comes with this lot.
