Duke of Windsor's Personal Macgregor Tourney Clubs In Bag

We are excited about this offering, they are not only from royalty that played with them, but this individual was newsworthy wherever he went. The Duke of Windsor along with his wife Wallis Simpson AKA the Duchess of Windsor, met Babe Zaharias at the 1947 British Women’s Amateur Championship played at the Gullane Golf Club in East Lothian Scotland. Babe was victorious and was the first American ever to win the tournament. After the match and all the media highlights, The Duke and Duchess invited Babe back to their dwellings to extend the celebration. Over the years the royal couple and the Zaharias would spend time together on the golf course as well as dining and drinking into the late hours. During the early fifties, the royal couple were invited for a weekend at Babe and George’s newly renovated golf course and clubhouse to christen the Tampa Golf and Country Club. After several rounds of golf, Babe took the Duke aside for a few pointers and suggested that he trade in his current set of Macgregor clubs for a set of the new Wilson, the sporting goods company that sponsors all of Babe’s golf equipment.

Prince Edward (Aka the Duke of Windsor) did not hesitate and departed from Tampa with a complete set of Wilson attire, including clubs, balls, gloves, tees, shirts, and a golf bag. This historical set of clubs he gave to Babe to remind her and George of their treasured friendship. The Duke’s Macgregor set consists of, Macgregor Eye-O-Matic M65W Driver/2-4 woods, Macgregor M75 2-9 irons, Macgregor M75 11 iron, Macgregor M4 Brass Head MT Putter, Macgregor Tufhorse pipe-organ golf bag and four multi-colored head covers. 34" - 43." A signed letter of provenance from The Babe Zaharias Foundation comes with this lot.
