Doug Ford and Cary Middlecoff appear on the cover of this August 11 1955 copy of the London based Golf Illustrated magazine.
The 1955 PGA Championship, the 37th installment of the tournament, was held at Meadowbrook Country Club in Northville Township, Michigan, from July 20-26. Doug Ford won the match play championship, defeating Cary Middlecoff 4 and 3 in the final. This was Ford's first major title, with the Masters in 1957 following. The winner's prize was $5,000, while Middlecoff earned $3,000. The event was a match play championship, a format that prevailed until 1957
