Donald Ross Signed Original Fabian Bachrach Portrait Photo With 1947 Inscription

One of the finest Donald Ross discoveries has just been made - yielding perhaps the only signed original portrait photo in existence. Here is the high-grade crystal clear original masterpiece from the lens of Louis Fabian Bachrach Jr, containing a seldom seen spectacular fountain pen signature from Donald Ross himself dated a single year prior to his passing in 1948 - also in his hand! Perhaps the image looks familiar to you. Often when the Course Architect is discussed such as on the Pinehurst Resort website itself, his physical depiction is this one. Known as the first U.S. architect to really design courses; Ross worked on over 500 in the United States. He came to Pinehurst in 1901 and was based there till his death in 1948. While there he designed and built Pinehurst Nos. 2, 3, and 4 courses. He also designed masterpieces Oakland Hills, Seminole, Inverness, Scioto and Oak Hill.

Esteemed American photographer Louis Fabian Bachrach Jr. (1917-2010), professionally known as Fabian, was the preferred portrait photographer for prominent Americans including politicians and celebrities. Bachrach was best known for his John F. Kennedy work that was used as his official photo after he was elected to The White House in 1960. Bachrach Photography Studio is by many accounts the world's oldest operating of its type after over 140 years. The pencil notation on the surrounding photography matting reads "Mr. Ross Designed and Built The Aronomink Golf Course, Newton Square, 1927" - one of Ross' gems. 19 1/2" x 23 1/2." Those with an emphasis on Donald Ross design have just seen something they never imagined would be offered to them. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
