D. Anderson and Sons St. Andrews Diamond Special Niblick Hickory Shaft Golf Club
This antique hickory-shafted iron golf club is a Special Niblick manufactured by D. Anderson and Sons of St. Andrews, Scotland. The club features a hand-forged iron head with a high loft, designed for short approach shots and recovery from hazards. The clubface contains a rectangular striking area with a hand-punched dot pattern. The back of the club head is stamped with multiple identifying marks. At the top is a circular stamp reading D. ANDERSON and SONS ST. ANDREWS. To the right, the word DIAMOND is stamped horizontally. A lower circular mark reads WARRANTED HAND FORGED around the perimeter, with the word Special in script and NIBLICK in block letters in the center. The club is fitted with a traditional hickory wood shaft and a leather-wrapped grip. David Anderson and his sons were prominent golf professionals and clubmakers based in St. Andrews, the home of golf, during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
