Circa 1930's Bobby Jones Signed PGA Championship Blue Dot Golf Ball
This circa 1930's Spalding golf ball bearing dual blue dots, Spalding P.G.A , Championship and Geer patent cover markings is signed by Robert T. Jones in fountain pen with a time period corresponding autograph. Jones' signature is fluidly rendered, remaining quite bold (8/10) and contrasting well against the creme-colored surface of the ball. The ball displays slight surface blemishes which are more than compensated for by a signature which literally jumps off the ball. It has long been recognized by the devoted collectors of signed golf balls that there is a real scarcity of Bobby Jones signed golf balls which remain in 2020 or for that matter ever existed.
Now lets go one step forward to examine what causes this real stratospheric level of scarcity. Since the surface of a golf ball is very slick, it doesn't take well to ink, and lets face it who was walking around in the Depression Era with a golf ball to be signed even if you were fortunate enough to be in Mr. Jones company. This is an investment grade example of the most widely coveted object in the realm of golf collecting. This marks the highest grade Jones' signed golf ball which The Golf Auction has offered. It comes with a full letter of authenticity from James Spence Authentication. A letter of from PGA Historian Bob Denney will accompany this lot.
