Champion Gene Sarazen's 1922 US Open Golfer's Victory Dinner Program/Menu - Rare
A very rare publication from the daughter of the champion in which was the guest of honor, here is champion Gene Sarazen's 1922 US Open Golfer's Victory Dinner Program/Menu. He was the youngest pro to win the US Open at that time. This menu has a clear image of Sarazen holding the US Open trophy inside the stylized cover which reads: 'Golfers Dinner in Honor of Gene Sarazen National Open Champion Tendered by the Golfers of Western Pennsylvania at the William Penn Hotel Tuesday Evening July Twenty-Fifth Nineteen Hundred and Twenty Two.' The program menu goes on to tell the 'Story in Figures of How Gene Sarazen Won the Open Championship of the United States July 14, 15, 1922' with each of the rounds including qualifying. Sarazen would win the PGA Championship just a month later for his second major en route to becoming the first Grand Slam Champion. This example is from the Sarazen scrapbook, with adhesive residue on the final pages with the back cover missing. This is an extremely rare and early US Open publication for Sarazen and the uncommon victory dinner menus alike. It goes on to discuss the courses including French Peach Ice Cream and list of speakers. A signed letter of provenance from Mary Ann Sarazen will come with this lot.
