Byron Nelson Signed 1944 Canadian Exhibition Ticket

On November 19 1944, an estimated 4500 fans would witness leading money winner Byron Nelson team up with Harold Jug McSpaden to defeat Stan Leonard and Quilchena pro Freddie Wood 3 and 2 over the Quilchena Golf Club course in Richmond, British Columbia. Proceeds from the tournament would go to the Red Cross Prisoners of War Fund. One of the 4500 fans would have Byron Nelson sign the back of his ticket in pencil and it is now offered here at auction. Byron Nelson is widely considered one of the greatest golfers of all time, and a 2009 Sports Illustrated panel ranked him seventh on its list of all-time greatest golfers, behind Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Jones, Hogan, Snead, and Arnold Palmer. Overall a nice early Nelson signature on a scarce exhibition ticket that documents professional golfers’ charitable efforts to raise money for the Prisoners of War . James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the signatures and their auction letter of authentication will come with this lot.
