Bobby Jones at 1934 Masters Tournament Putting w/ Calamity Jane PSA Type 1 Photo
Dreaming up the perfect Type I Masters photo in similar fashion to the subject and co-founder Bobby Jones dreamt up his perfect course - it might look something like this in your head. The close, yet full-body shot of Jones here was brilliantly captured with Calamity Jane in-hand by an on-course professional lensman at just the right time (mid-putt) and place - crouched down at green level at the very first Masters Tournament! Carrying the 2/24/34 dated adhered corresponding caption on the verso, along with numerous ACME pictures stamps claiming the exquisite shot is this PSA encapsulated Type 1.
A point of emphasis, while holding his weapon of choice putter Calamity Jane (famous in its own right), Bobby Jones' eyes are depicted tracking his golf ball heading toward the camera fractions of a second prior to likely disappearing in the hole and out of the frame. The dream had come to life, and while Jones himself was not in favor of calling the tournament 'The Masters' in 1934 - the media ran with a hybrid (Masters' Invitation Golf Tournament at The Augusta National Golf Club) and PSA properly titled this crystal clear photo '1st Masters Tournament' on its top label. Its verso includes the aforementioned welcomed, highly significant ACME stamps and caption dating this image from the second round of the tournament on March 23rd. PSA/DNA has encapsulated this photo for preservation and presentation PSA #1p04343 and deemed it the highly valued first generation 'Type I' photo! 7" x 9"
