Bobby Jones & Henry Cotton Signed Original Photo Display From Cotton Estate at The Masters
Part of Henry Cotton's estate is this crystal clear photograph that was undoubtedly important to Cotton. It captured a fond memory with a famous friend of his, in that friend's initialed golf cart at The Masters Tournament in 1957. That 'famous friend' was Bobby Jones, co-founder of Augusta National (where the two are pictured in the foreground of the famous white pillars) and The Masters Tournament. 'R.T.J. Jr.' is written in white on Bobby Jones' personal cart that they are sitting in. Jones won each of the four original major championships in 1930. Blue pen signatures of each pictured individual, Henry Cotton and Bobby Jones (full-name Robert T Jones Jr.), are professionally mounted just below the original, close photo of the aging golf luminaries. To ensure that the handwritten notations by Henry Cotton on the verso of his personal photo are viewable behind the clear glass window on the backside of the frame. In Cotton's hand reads "Henry Cotton and Bobby Jones at The Masters - at Augusta 1957 - he had a hand controls on his cart as he could not used his legs then." A closeup of the notations can be viewed in photo #6 of this lot. It is stamped after 'return to' "Henry Cotton Penina Golf Hotel, Montes D'Alvor, Algarve, Portugal." Professionally framed with Burlwood to 16 1/2" x 21." James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
