Bobby Jones' Personal Letters W/Publisher 'Golf Is My Game' Book Includes Jones Signed Page

The ailing Bobby Jones made a significant final trek across the North Atlantic Ocean to St Andrews in 1958; this time wearing very different hats than he did during his 1930 "Grand Slam." His trip was legendary for three reasons, as he: received the prestigious Freedom of St Andrews honor, captain the United States Eisenhower Trophy World Amateur team on October 8-11th and 13th and last but not least - wrote his book 'Golf Is My Game.' Bobby Jones wanted "to play to win," as he states. The winning bidder of this lot will garner the previously unknown information from the mind and pen of Bobby Jones.

In this lot you will see a comprehensive curated binder of nearly 100 pages paper correspondence between Bobby Jones and Doubleday & Company's Robert Black, Ferris Mack and others heading up the 'Golf is My Game' project starting in 1958 and published in 1960. The first 2 page are Bobby Jones' key points that he wanted to present to "Get me (jones) to the final organization of the project ('Golf is My Game')." Jones concluded this document with a blue ballpoint pen signature. Included is: "(4) A history, as objective and honest as I can make it, of the Grand Slam year. This, I want for the record." One of countless other lines written by Bobby Jones on the ephemera in this lot "Observations on the later years after retirement, especially treating of Augusta, the characteristics of a golf course, the history of the Masters Tournament, of my participation in the early years, and the parade of top players and winners since then." Masters historians and fans, along with those with interest in course design are both eager to read that section of Jones' 'Golf is My Game' notes. Additional works of this professional writer-publisher partnership as he was the publisher of many of Jones' key books including: 'Bobby Jones on Golf' - 1966, 'Bobby Jones on the Basic Swing' - 1969. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
