Bobby Jones' Personal Letters Correspondence of 'Bobby Jones On The Basic Golf Swing'
Previously unknown information and correspondence from the mind and typewriter of Bobby Jones in preparation for the release of his final title 'Bobby Jones On The Basic Golf Swing' book, published in 1969 by Doubleday & Co with illustrator Anthony Ravielli, is for bidding consideration in this lot. This was not Jones' first collaboration with the publishing company and Ferris Mack. Additional works of this professional writer-publisher partnership included many of Jones' key books including: 'Golf is My Game' - 1960 and 'Bobby Jones on Golf' - 1966. Doubleday's Mack and Jones come across in the letters as having a rather close working relationship in the back and forth, with candid and often unfiltered behind the scenes opinions regarding the book and even its illustrator. The Golf Auction offered curated correspondence with Bobby and Doubleday for 'Bobby Jones on Golf' in our April auction for a realized price of $4,740 as a comparison lot.
In this lot you will see a comprehensive curated binder of nearly 100 pages paper correspondence between Bobby Jones and Doubleday & Company's Robert Black, Ferris Mack, artist Anthony Ravielli, and others heading up the 'Bobby Jones on The Basic Golf Swing' project starting in January 1968, published in 1969 and concluding with correspondance through April 1971 (only 8 months prior to Jones' passing).
Bobby Jones didn't mince words when he wrote to author Bud Holscher in regards to a project he was doing in collaboration with Arnold Palmer: "I do not especially like your idea of presenting my words and phrases interwoven between the thoughts of you and Arnold. I think you and Arnold will both agree that I must insist upon maintaining the identity and integrity of my own writings.
I am sure you know that throughout the years many writers on golf have repeated without credit to me thoughts about the game that I expressed twenty-five or thirty years ago. Of course, the game is still played as it always has been, at least when properly played. So it is not unusual that different experts should have the same thoughts. But they need not be expressed with exactly the same words."
Bobby Jones historians and fans are both eager to read Jones' 'Bobby Jones On The Basic Golf Swing' notes and typed letters to famous artist Ravielli, fellow authors including Bud Holscher and of course Mack and the publishing team.

AUCTION CLOSING RULES:
Place your bids now as this auction will close LOT BY LOT beginning at 10:00pm EDT Sunday, May 22nd. When placing your INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bidders in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm EDT
4. All available lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 10pm EDT
**Once extended bidding starts at 10pm EDT, each lot will then begin closing with its own 30-minute countdown timer. Lots without a bid during extended bidding will close at 10:30pm ET. We recommend you place your maximum bid(s) prior to that time. Thank you**
