Bobby Jones' 1926 'Golf Clubs as Bird Sanctuaries' Book - Scarcest Written Work
When cataloging the written works of the great Bobby Jones in totality, it's quite apparent that 'Golf Clubs as Bird Sanctuaries' is the most elusive title on the checklist - one in which Jones collaborated with his dear friend and original Augusta National Golf Club member Grantland Rice. Published in 1926 Jones was just entering his prime, with only one of his 13 majors won prior. The amateur golfer joined an esteemed writing committee to educate both the public and the private courses on the ways to best protect their winged wildlife, specifically birds that lived on and around the golf course. Clean grey wrappers and complete; the National Association of Audubon Societies For the Protection of World Birds and Animals contains 64 pages. Many of these pages include black and white pictures of golf courses and nature's creatures for educational purposes. Illustrated on the reverse wrapper is a humorous cartoon of Bobby Jones himself in which his ball strikes an egg. The bird standing next to him's dialogue bubble is "Hey! That was my egg!?!!" It is in good condition, with very light surface wear and the middle pages 31-34 free from binding. Please inspect the accompanying lot photos for a detailed report of this, Bobby Jones' scarcest written work.
