Bobby Jones Signed 1947 Augusta National GC 'Four Days of Golf & Nights of Gin Rummy' Party Invitation on Letterhead

Preceding the start of the 1947 Masters Tournament by a mere eight days, the contest's second year back after a WWII-caused three year hiatus, Bobby Jones wrote this letter finalizing plans for eight couples to stay at Augusta National the first weekend of May for golf and gin rummy and a "hell of a good time." The letter on Jones' law firm letterhead dated March 26, 1947 concluded with best regards and his ink signature on the 'Robert T. Jones Jr. line. Condition of this surviving letter saved from destruction is in by no means good condition, however it is a survivor that remains mostly legible of ANGC and Bobby Jones social content not often viewed by or made available to the public. Please inspect the lot for this brittle sheet adhered on another's detailed condition report, which reads (in excerpts) as follows: "All Cabins and suites at Augusta, which will accommodate ten couples, will be available for the first weekend in May (1957)," Jones advertised. "This will give us four days for golf and at least four evenings for gin rummy. We will count upon all of the men to play golf except Elwyn, who will be in charge of the entertainment for the ladies during the day and will be allowed to drink and enjoy himself as a guest during the evening. Ladies will be encouraged to play golf, look at gardens in Augusta or Charleston, or spend their husbands' money on antiques according to their preference. I Think I can promise comfortable accommodations, good food and a reasonably good golf course, the weather being favorable. In any event, I believe we will have a hell of a good time." Jimmy Demaret would win his second of three Masters a week after Jones typed this, joining Horton Smith as then-record two-time champions. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity (ALOA) comes with this lot.
