Bobby Jones Signed 1931 Miami Valley Golf Club Exhibition Match Ticket JSA #ZZ01217

Paper tickets to Bobby Jones' exhibitions don't surface very often. Green print on canary yellow 'BOBBY JONES' thick uppercase lettering spans the equator of the ducat - an 'Extra, Extra Read All About it' introduction for the man that was more than deserving. It was only to be outdone by the verso, one carrying the cherished time-period pencil full-name signature by the talk of the sports world. On August 29, 1931, The Junior League of Dayton, Ohio sponsored a golf exhibition match at the Miami Valley Golf Club in Dayton featuring recently-turned "How I Play Golf" movie star Jones teamed with Jim Noble against Jock Collins and Steve Zappe. The Jones team would lose one down, with the spectators the real winners. The philanthropic Jones donated his portion of the ticket proceeds to an Atlanta hospital ward for children in need.

A huge crowd of 4,000 Daytonians turned out to catch their first glimpse of the 1930 Grand Slam winner. The over enthusiastic crowd proved unruly and massed themselves closely behind and in front of him. Even though he was use to crowds it was suggested by a newspaper writer that this annoyed Jones a bit. Nonetheless, Jones was gracious enough to sign the back of this ticket for one lucky fan that took in the action that day.

It cannot be stressed enough that Bobby Jones signed exhibition tickets are uncommon and hard to find, containing the prized 1931 full-name pencil penmanship across the verso along with the course name and date (Aug 29, 1931) in an unknown hand below. This is your opportunity to add a time-stamped Bobby Jones signed ticket, with original string attached, to your collection/portfolio. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their FULL letter of authenticity #ZZ01217 comes with this lot.
