Bobby Jones 1928 Exhibition Golf Match Ticket Baltimore Country Club
On April 29,1928 Bobby Jones teamed up with Watts Gunn to take on the team of Roland Mackenzie and Warren Corkran in an exhibition match at the Baltimore Country Club for the benefit of the Baltimore Olympic Fund. Mackenzie, Jones and Gunn were all members of the previous Walker Cup team. Corkran was a previous Maryland Open winner.
Here we have an original diamond shaped ticket from the event with its’ original string that remains in excellent front condition, and a verso side that show some glue residue.
At the time of this match Bobby was in his prime and was proclaimed by the papers as the world’s greatest golfer. Five months after this match Jones would win the 1928 USGA Amateur Championship at Brae Burn. A crowd of 4000 would watch Jones and Gunn battle to a tie in this match with Mackenzie and Corkran.
