Bobby Jones 1927 US Open at Oakmont CC Underwood and Underwood Photo
Before you is the exceptional, crystal clear and close portrait photo of Bobby Jones at the 1927 US Open peering directly at the New York based Underwood and Underwood lensman. A wide range of value and intense attention for detail are present in this composition, even giving the viewer the ability to read the number '14' on Jones' USGA contestant badge pinned to his sweater. The camera catches Jones in focus in the foreground, in front of the Oakmont CC Clubhouse that is out - his uncharacteristically not parted. The defending US Open champion and Oakmont champion at the US Amateur just two years prior, Bobby Jones would play victor The Open championship that year of 1927 but not the United States Open. That tournament would crown Tommy Armour, the great champion that showcased exceptional skill and poise that week. Attached to the verso, with drop-down display potential for viewing or framing just below the photo is the aforementioned Underwood and Underwood studio caption both helping date (US Open at Oakmont) and identify the photo and its highly decorated subject. The photo itself remains in very good condition with excellent surface, edging and three sharp corners.
