Bobby Clampett's 1980 Masters Tournament Hole No. 15 Steuben Crystal Eagle Glass - Defending Low Am
Along with other traditions such as the Crystal Vase for the low score of the day, Hole-In-One, and a Double Eagle; the Steuben Crystal Highball Glasses are given to a competitor who succeeds in scoring an eagle on any one of the holes at Augusta National during the Masters Tournament. This tradition dates to the 1954 tournament, when the Augusta National presented these glasses of achievement for the first time. Over The Golf Auction's 10 plus years of business we have only had a handful of these highly collectible awards. Offered here for consideration is Bobby Clampett's crystal highball glass in near mint condition from 1980, with all etchings on glass well preserved (Robert D. Clampett Jr., defending Low Amateur and last year with that status), in similar fashion to the day it was presented that year. The decorated amateur and eventual Masters analyst with CBS, Clampett, made an eagle in Seve Ballesteros' first Masters tournament win on the par 5 15th hole: Firethorn at Augusta during tournament play that week. It measures approximately 6 1/2" tall. A signed letter from Mr. Clampett will accompany this lot.
Simplifying the golf swing while instructing a diverse group of golfers through both his authored 'Impact Zone' books and lessons comes second nature to Bobby Clampett, now teaching and residing in Naples, Florida - as he mastered the swing as a player himself. The 1979 Masters and 1978 US Open Low Amateur honoree, the BYU alumni where he was a two-time Fred Haskins Award, is a Hall of Famer there as well as in the California and Utah Golf Hall of Fames. CBS Broadcaster for The Masters and Turner Sports, The Bobby Clampett Collection has been curated over decades of participating in the highest form of competition and is proudly offered here.
