Bernhard Langer's Personal Match Used Bettinardi 428 Soft Carbon B.L. 5.9.03 Putter
"Recently requested on Tour, some of the game’s best putters are looking for Carbon Steel models with maintenance free finishes," the Bettinardi website reports on a current model of Bernhard Langer's soft carbon putter here. The carefully stamped '5.9.03' dates this putter's production to May 5, 2003. Additional sole stamping includes the 'Bettinardi' brand along with model '420' 'Soft Carbon' with a sideways 'A' and of course the original owner Bernhard Langer's initials 'B.L.' From a play standpoint, it rolls the ball smoothly and has great feel - unsurprising that Langer would have tried it out.
After his record 46th PGA Champions Tour victory this year a mindboggling Bernhard Langer statistic was released. Langer has won a professional golf event in 40 of the last 45 years. Masters winner in 1985 and 1993, the German has been chosen for eleven (11) Ryder Cups as a contestant or captain after decades of domination. Aside from winning, a lot, Langer is known as one of the 'good guys.' Always kind with fans, generous with his time and philanthropic with his resources, Langer donated his Personal Match Used Bettinardi 428 Soft Carbon B.L. 5.9.03 Putter to generate funds to the First Tee of Broward County. Please inspect the accompanying lot photos closely. It is stamped with his initials 'B.L.' and shows welcomed signs of use, but not abuse. 'Gamers' from the Golf Hall of Famer are uncommon, with this showing obvious usage and personalization both contributing to an ideal tournament-used Masters winner's club. Still a top name on the PGA Senior Tour, look for him continue to show up on the top of the leaderboard many Sundays to come despite being 16 years his competitors' senior. A signed letter of provenance comes with this lot. 49 1/4"
