Ben Hogan Tamarisk Country Club Bag Tag - Palm Springs, Calif.

The doctor said Ben Hogan would never play golf again, merely lucky to be alive after his head-on collision with a bus on a Texas highway in 1949. The golfer was on his way to becoming one of the best, unfortunately a tragic accident intervened. This is what the media had predetermined, Ben Hogan however was ready to prove everyone wrong. During the recovery, repetition was important, but nothing Ben Hogan wasn't used to. Similar to other top professionals, The Hawk took a winter job as the head professional at the newly opened Tamarisk Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California. He would work on his health and legs at Tamarisk while there from 1952 until 1954. He would play an abbreviated schedule each of the years after his crash, even during his storied 1953. This lot represents a time-stamped relic from the Ben Hogan story, a bag tag from the club during his two year window there that represented recovery, relentlessness, perseverance and great success.
