Ben Hogan Signed August 1, 1951 George May Contestant Pay Contract
Ben Hogan defeated his buddy Jimmy Demaret in a playoff at the 1951 World Championship of Golf at Tam O'Shanter Country Club. George May created the tournament and it was the pro's favorite due to the exponentially larger prize fund offered. Up for grabs in this lot is a contract between George May and Ben Hogan, guaranteeing Hogan an extra $15,000 in the event he finished in 1st place. The winner's share in 1951 was $10,000, and with this bonus from May Hogan earned a whopping $25,000 for his victory there. At the time, the first place prize in most Tour stops was $2,000 or less. Hogan's signature comes nicely on this contract in black ink.
James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the signature and their auction letter of authenticity will come with this lot.
Please note: This auction will end at 5:00pm EST on Sunday, April 8th, with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow.
