Bay Hill Invitational Pro Am Winner's Trophy Sword from 2001
Playing with Andrew Magee in the pro-am just prior to the start of the tournament, our consignor and his team would deliver the only loss Tiger Woods would take that week as he went on to win the PGA tournament and receive his own version of this sword presented by Arnold Palmer! Woods defended his title in 2001 and would go on to win the tournament a remarkable 8 times in total.
The 'Arnold Palmer' or 'Bay Hill' Invitational held in Orlando holds a special place in the game of golf, as it is the PGA Tour's yearly reminder of the impact that the great Arnold Palmer had on the game. Now in his namesake, The Arnold Palmer Invitational is a stop on the schedule that many top players circle to pay homage to The King who was a former resident in the Florida golfing community. Arnold Palmer purchased Bay Hill in 1979 and it has been his tournament ever since. An engraved presentation sword was given to the winner of the tournament, with the aforementioned Tiger Woods among those that have wielded it in the past. Presented here is 'The Bay Hill Trophy' Sword from its original recipient containing detailed engraving of 'The Bay Hill Trophy' inside scrolls, with American flags on each side. The end of the handle contains a metal dimple golf ball held in the wings of an eagle, with detail and fine craftsmanship evident from one end of the trophy to the other. While the sword itself is not dated, a nameplate designating it from 2001 (originally framed with the picture of our consignor with it, his team and Arnie that year not included) will accompany this lot. 14"
