Augusta National GC Member Clubhouse Wedgwood Bone China Ltd Ed Plate #211
Crafted by Wedgwood this extremely limited edition plate #211 depicts the classic design of the Augusta National Golf Club clubhouse. The iconic image of the clubhouse shown on this highly collectible plate is depicted in black and white while surrounded by a rich, tasteful emerald green and gold gilt. The markings on the back proclaim the composition of fine bone china by Wedgwood of England. The Augusta National clubhouse is believed to be the first concrete house built in the South. It was built in 1854 as the home of Dennis Redmond, owner of the indigo plantation that came before Fruitlands Nursery. It is the most famous clubhouse in golf and signifies the tradition and grandeur associated with ANGC and the Masters. Josiah Wedgwood founded his company in 1759 and designed a tea and coffee service for Queen Charlotte, earning him the title of "Potter to Her Majesty." His company still to this day makes fine and highly collectible glass wares. The Golf Auction in January 2017 auctioned the sample plate from this members only edition for $2,891. A similar plate to the one in this auction was sold in our 2017 August auction and sold for $3,123. The difficulty of obtaining this plate is stratospheric compared with the far more common Augusta members plate series which were issued by Lenox in the United States beginning in 1992 with plate #1. The diameter of this item is 11".
