Arnold Palmer Signed & Inscribed "Congratulations on #325" Photo to NFL Great Don Shula
Arnold Palmer and Don Shula were contemporaries born three months apart. They both grew up in the Steel Belt; Palmer in Latrobe, Pa., Shula in Painesville, Ohio. They both found glory in sports rising to the Hall of Fame of their respective games and migrating to Florida to set up empires, Shula in Miami, Palmer in Orlando.
"I have a great deal of respect for him," Palmer said. "He was a helluva man who did a helluva job, and he did it for a lot of years."
They didn't know each other well, only fleetingly, bumping into each other at the occasional function. Shula, an avid golfer, was closer with South Florida golfers such as Raymond Floyd, his past neighbor , and Jack Nicklaus. But Palmer felt a spiritual kinship with Shula because of where they've been, what they've accomplished. With this in mind he signed in black sharpie an 11x14 photo for Don Shula in recognition of the coaches N.F.L. record setting win "To Don Shula","Congratulations on #325". Palmer new a thing about winning himself with 60 PGA Tour wins, 10 senior tournaments, seven major championships. Seldom found inscription from one Hall of Famer to another Hall of Famer in a different sport. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the signature of Arnold Palmer and the inscription finding both to be hand signed by Palmer, and their letter of authenticity will come with this lot.
