Arnold Palmer Signed 1966 Masters Famous 'Smoking' Type II Photo w/ Hogan PSA
Here is a high-grade Arnold Palmer signed type II Morgan Fitz stamped photo of the famous 'Hogan and Palmer Smoking Photo' capturing the pair at Augusta National Golf Club during the 1966 Masters Tournament taking drags in unison. The notable smokers would combine for six Masters wins in all. Interestingly enough The Palmer vs. Hogan one-sided frustration was ongoing, with Hogan refusing to call Arnold Palmer by his name or anything other than a "hey fella." Some things never change, and that is one of them. This photo remains that of astronomical magnitude in the golf world. In September of 2024 we had an example of this photo signed by not just Palmer, but Hogan as well command $4,633. Again, that was the sum for a dual signed example of this image. After the sale we had a handful of collectors reach out about the next acquisition opportunity. Without Hogan's scribe, here it is.
The front PSA label includes the following text: PHOTOGRAPH, ARNOLD PALMER & BEN HOGAN, MASTERS TOURNAMENT in 1966, PSA/DNA CERT., TYPE II, AUTHENTIC, c. 1980s, 85751090. The reverse side of the photograph contains handwritten notations including: Date 1966 MASTERS, Order No. #41, and Neg No. HOGAN + PALMER. Additional partial text on the reverse includes Way, 30004, and n Fitz, referring to the photographer Morgan Fitz.
