Antoine Bofill Golfer in Jacket Bronze Statue - Only 13 Made
Antoine Bofill was a late 19th-early 20th century artist best known for decorative bronze sculptures. Bofill’s intricate and realistic works are especially notable for their bronze casts that set him apart from the other sculptors of his time. Born in 1875 in Barcelona, Spain, he studied at the Academy of Beaux Arts in Barcelona, Spain, before garnering worldwide acclaim. He went on to regularly exhibit in the prestigious salons and he is thought to have died sometime after 1925.
Presented here is a rare Bofill golf sculpture reproduction, one of just 13 that were made in the 1990’s. This was due to the scarcity of the (single) original bronze bust, and the attention it drew from admirers. We are advised the mold was destroyed and no more have been made. Features a highly detailed bronze of a golfer at the top of his backswing and stamped 'A. Bofill' and with studio stamp (along the right hand edge). The golfer is nicely draped in late 19th century golf attire resembling Harry Vardon to a degree and the clothes he wore at the turn of the century. Quite rare, the original was previously featured in the 1993 Golf Sporting Antiquities Auction catalog cover shown here. 6 1/4" x 7" x 19 1/2". This bronze statue weighs 16 lbs.
