Antique Slotted Hosel Hand Forged Hickory Shafted Mashie Golf Club
This is an antique hickory-shafted mashie golf club from the early 20th century, produced approximately between 1910 and 1925. The club features a hand-forged steel head with a distinctive slotted hosel, characterized by three vertical cutouts designed to reduce weight and adjust the club balance. The striking face is decorated with a dot-dash punch pattern, featuring alternating rows of horizontal lines and circular dots. The back of the head is stamped with the characters GUARANTEED, HAND FORGED, PAT. PENDING, and MASHIE. The design of the slotted hosel and face pattern is closely associated with manufacturers of the period such as A.G. Spalding and Bros. or Wright and Ditson, though no specific manufacturer logo or cleek mark is present. The head is mounted on a tapered hickory wood shaft and finished with a dark brown leather wrap grip secured with whipping at the base.
