Antique Jerry Travers Signature Center-Shafted Mallet Putter
This antique golf club is a center-shafted mallet-style putter associated with legendary American amateur golfer Jerome Jerry Travers. The iron head is a blocky mallet design with the shaft entering at the center, a configuration similar to the Schenectady style putters popularized in the early 20th century. The sole of the iron head is stamped with the signature J. Travers in cursive script above the address 1 LAUREL ST and HARTFORD CONN in block capital letters. This specific address is historically linked to business activities conducted by Travers in Connecticut. The sole also features a circular weighting plug. The club is fitted with a traditional hickory shaft and a long leather-wrap grip secured with black thread whipping at the base. Jerry Travers was a prominent figure in early American golf, winning four U.S. Amateur titles and the 1915 U.S. Open.
