Antique G.S. Sprague and Co. The Jimmy Hickory Shaft Brassie Golf Club
An antique wooden golf club, identified as a brassie, manufactured in Scotland for the retailer G.S. Sprague and Co. of Boston. The club features a dark-stained wood mallet-style head. The striking face is fitted with a dark insert containing ten decorative circular plugs arranged in a grid pattern. A full brass sole plate is attached to the underside of the head with five flat-head screws. The club is constructed with a tapered hickory shaft joined to the head by traditional black thread whipping at the hosel. The grip consists of a spiral-wrapped dark brown leather, finished with matching black thread whipping at the base. The crown of the head is stamped with the following four lines: G. S. SPRAGUE and CO., BOSTON, THE JIMMY, and MADE IN SCOTLAND.
