Antique Fred L. Low Hickory Shafted Lofting Iron Golf Club
This is an antique hickory-shafted golf club, specifically identified as a lofting iron. The clubhead is made of forged metal with a smooth face and a rounded toe. The back of the head features a centered oval stamp with the inscription Fred L. Low Worcester, Mass. A single incised letter L is positioned to the left of the maker mark. The shaft is crafted from straight-grained hickory wood. The club is fitted with a period leather wrap-around grip. Fred L. Low was a professional golfer and clubmaker based in Worcester, Massachusetts, during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. 37"
