Alan Shepard's Personal Match Used Golf Bag w/Hogan Irons, Woods & Putter w/Headcovers
Custom made for Alan Shepard's personal usage was this airbrushed Hogan Co. bag exhibiting 'Apollo XIV' and an action shot of Shepard hitting his famous 'Golf Shot On The Moon' bookending his airbrushed profile depiction and facsimile signature in the center. A matching set of Hogan Co. forged irons (with excellent face wear), Hogan Edge woods, and a Ray Cook mallet 3-G patent pending putter are housed in his Hogan Edge bag that duals as a work of art.
Alan B. Shepard, Jr. was not only the first American in space and the only of the original Mercury Seven astronauts to walk on the moon-he holds a "first" in the sports world as well. As a member of the Apollo 14 (XIV) crew - the third successful lunar landing - in 1971, Shepard took a NASA moon tool and attached the head of a six iron, then proceeded to swing at a golf ball he had brought with, sending it "miles and miles" into the sky with the iconic swing.
The 6-iron that Shepard hit the ball with on the moon is in the USGA museum, with some speculating that it could be the most valuable golf artifact. Here is a 6-iron that Alan Shepard used at TPC Sawgrass and Mesa Country Club in 1976 and into the 1980's (TPC opened in 1980). These personalized bag tags, each with 'Alan Shepard' stamped on the tape verso, remain intact to his personal bag available here and sourced through The Babe Zaharias Foundation.
