2023 September Golf Memorabilia Auction is OPEN - Bid Now!
Adam Scott Signed 2003 Deutsche Bank Champ. 18th Hole Flown Champion's Flag - 1st Pro Win!
A breakthrough win during his rookie campaign, Adam Scott will always remember his first pro win at the 2003 Deutsche Bank Championship. “I was only looking up at that point when I sat here winning on the Tour for the first time and just imagined it would all probably be a lot easier than it is,” Scott said. “That’s youth and inexperience and being somewhat naïve, because at that point golf wasn’t a challenge, at all. It was a lot of fun and it all came quite easily. “I probably sat there and thought I’d win another three the next year and a couple of majors would just jump in the next couple of years. That’s how you feel when you’re confident and playing well.” Of course Scott thought the game was easy - his blazing second round was a course record 62 at the New England based TPC Boston venue in his 34th career start. The phenom glided to a four shot victory over Rocco Mediate and the field. Scott would go on to play in that year's Presidents Cup, win 14 times on the PGA Tour (and counting), including of course the 2013 Masters Tournament.
Customary is it for the winning golfer to present his caddy with the prized 18th hole tournament flown flag flag from the final day Sunday as soon as the tournament concludes out appreciation. That is precisely what the 2003 Deutsche Bank Championship winner Adam Scott did with this flag, gifting it to his looper Alastair McLean. Mclean was on a break with player Colin Montgomerie and Scott left a large signature just above the center embroidered blue Deutsche Bank Championship logo. It was a good match as the pair won a handful of times in the two years they were together as McLean recalls. This flag that includes its original plastic insert shows welcomed light wear consistent of round usage. Please note that the final photo in this lot is for reference only, McLean with a flag from that tournament in his hand next to champion Adam Scott. A signed Letter of Provenance from Caddy Alastair McLean will accompany this lot. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
