A. H. Padgham Display w/ 1936 Ticket, Signed Cut, Photo & More - Framed
Less than three months after Alf Padgham was crowned 1936 Open Champion, he triumphed at the September 6th exhibition. Partnering with Ryder Cup mainstay C.A. Whitcombe, they won 5 and 3 in the four-ball match over J. Adams and Cecil Denny of Romford and the home course of Thorpe Hall Golf Club respectively. This was much due to a tidy 30 back 9 holes by Padgham. Over the span of 6 holes he had five birdies and an eagle as reported by the Daily Herald the Monday after. Padgham set the course record of 68 in the afternoon medal round, at the peak of his career. This pink ticket to that very exhibition (SUnday Sep 6 at THGC) was mounted with a signed cut of Padgham's and three photos in a black and silver frame display. Alfred Harry (Alf) Padgham had two consecutive top-five Open finishes going into the 1936 Open Championship, he left Hoylake crowned the Champion Golfer of the Year. Padgham was a successful English team and individual golfer was a British Ryder Cup team member three times. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity (ALOA) comes with this lot.
