A.W. Tillinghast Signed 1934 Typed Letter to George R. Jacobus on Golf Illustrated Letterhead 7/16
Proudly presented here is an exquisite offering from the golf architecture and Ryder Cup categories - A.W. Tillinghast Signed 1934 correspondence regarding the then upcoming 1935 Ryder Cup at the Tillinghast designed Ridgewood Country Club. From Baltusrol, Winged Foot Golf Club and Newport Country Club, to Ridgewood CC in this case, fabled course architect A.W. Tillinghast's masterpieces totaled more than 265 golf courses when his career completed. Tillinghast in 2015 became the 6th golf course architect in history to be inducted into the Golf Course Hall of Fame in the Life Time Achievement category.
Signed in flowing time-period ink in 1934, five years after the Ridgewood CC completion, A.W. Tillinghast gladly accepted photos of his course conditions prior to it being on the international stage a year later. His scarce signature is inked at the conclusion of the typed letter on Golf Illustrated letterhead. Letter reads:
Dear George:
Replying to yours of July 13th; I shall be very glad to receive any photographs of the Ridgewood Country Club clubhouse, and of the greens where on the Ryder Cup Matches are to be played.

A.W. Tillinghast. This lot will come with a signed Letter of Provenance from Historian Bob Denney of the PGA of America, proclaiming that this item comes from their collection.
