A Set of Four Gene Sarazen Signature Golf Clubs Including Wilson Models
A set of four golf clubs featuring the signature of professional golfer Gene Sarazen, produced across various eras of the 20th century. The collection includes a Wilson model 288 6-iron with a chrome-plated steel head and a dark pyratone-finished steel shaft. The back of the clubhead is marked with script lettering reading Wilson and Gene Sarazen followed by the number 288. The top edge bears an impressed mark reading PAT NO. 1.777.774. A hickory-shafted GS3 mashie is present, featuring an alloy head marked with a triangle logo containing ALCOA METAL. Other markings on the back of the mashie include Gene Sarazen in script, BRINE'S inside a ribbon banner, and a circular logo containing ASHWORTH CO. HARVARD BOSTON. The word MASHIE is stamped at the bottom. A second Wilson iron, model 4-ST, is a 4-iron with a chrome-plated steel head and pyratone-finished steel shaft. It is marked with block letters reading WILSON and script reading Gene Sarazen, with the hosel stamped REG NO. 17268. The final club is a commemorative Wilson R-90 sand wedge featuring a polished steel head and a dark-finished modern steel shaft. The top surface is marked R-90 and Wilson in red, while the back displays the words Original 1933 Gene Sarazen Sand Iron. The clubs feature various grip styles including dark brown wrapped leather and a modern black rubber replacement with a green chevron pattern.
